Common Questions
Subcontractors who do not have a direct contract with the owner must serve a Notice of Furnishing within 20 days of first furnishing labor or materials. Without this notice, lien rights are lost.
Before an owner is required to pay the general contractor, the GC must provide a sworn statement listing all subcontractors and suppliers on the project and the amount owed to each. This allows the owner to issue joint checks to protect against mechanic liens.
